Option 1. ‘De-Stress Your Pregnancy’

Having a baby can stir up unexpected feelings that are very much heightened during pregnancy and the first few weeks after birth. Although an essential part of the process of becoming a parent these feelings can sometimes be overwhelming. Having a space to think helps to reduce levels of stress brought on by such overwhelming feelings. The calmer you feel the better it is for your baby's development.

During the sessions you will not only be able to explore your worries and get them into perspective, but also learn how to keep you and your baby calm. Most antenatal approaches focus on the practical and educational - all very important, however, they do not often address the emotional impact of having a baby. This is suitable for all expectant mothers.

Is especially helpful for you if you have prenatal anxiety or depression. Also good for you if you have had previous pregnancy difficulties that you worry may happen again, such as, post natal illness including anxiety and depression, previous difficult birth experience or pregnancy loss.

Are You Feeling?

have had previous post-natal depression and worried it will happen again
have had a previous difficult birth experience
previous pregnancy loss
anxious and worried
depressed and tearful
just want to have some time to prepare emotionally for the challenges of motherhood

Then this is for you. At anytime during pregnancy, one 90 minute session to explore and plan a way forward. Followed by, between 5 - 10 Skype or clinic sessions. The final session takes place after your baby is born.

Why might these sessions be helpful?

Since the quality of relationships is at the root of all future wellbeing, and bonding begins during pregnancy, this is a programme that supports bonding to your individual child.

It is also an approach that helps to reduce stress during pregnancy. This is important as we now know that stress in pregnancy is transmitted across the placenta in the form of the stress hormone cortisol, which then programmes the developing baby to be more reactive to stress in life. So, reducing stress in pregnancy and the postnatal period has positive developmental outcomes for your baby.

Testimonials from mothers I have worked with confirms that they are better able to manage the anxieties and challenges of motherhood after the birth of their baby, as well as, greater emotional resourcefulness in caring for their newborn.
